Pic for websiteMy name is Elena Goodwin. I am a freelance Russian–English translator, tutor, and independent researcher. 

Originally from Russia, I have been living in the UK for 18 years and have worked as a freelance English–Russian translator and interpreter in both countries. My areas of translation specialisation are academic (humanities and social science), film subtitles, government, charity and NGO (legal and societal issues, human rights, education and training, culture and intercultural dialogue), and e-learning.

I have an MA in Translation and a PhD in Russian Studies from the University of Exeter (UK). My research interests include history of Russian/English translation, English and Russian cultural identity, Russian/English cultural relations, children’s literature in translation, censorship and ideology in translation, society and translation, animation and translation.

I teach Level 2 and Level 3 Community Interpreting in further education environment. I have taught Russian/English translation, Russian/English interpreting, and academic skills in higher education environment. I am a qualified and experienced teacher of English as a foreign language with a CELTA certificate from Cambridge Assessment English, and I teach ESOL (beginner, elementary and under-intermediate level) in a further education college. As a freelance private tutor I have provided classes in English as a foreign language (beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, academic skills) to individuals and small groups.
